Matthew Bergan

Matthew is a trained Gestalt Therapist (Advanced Clinical Training in Contemporary Gestalt Therapy and PACFA member) which honours the mind and body connection through talk therapy. He is also a trained Brainspotting practitioner, (Level 1). BSP is a brain, body therapy that uses the brain's natural capacity to heal itself by harnessing its ability for self scanning to activate, locate, and process sources of trauma and distress in the body.

Mathew is also a trained somatic counsellor and yoga master, with over 35 years of professional health and wellbeing experience,. He practices his own form of meditation, mindfulness and breath work and stays connected to his own body through activities such as gym, yoga, dance, forest bathing, and five senses walking meditation.

What is Gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed to increase a person's awareness, freedom, and self-direction. It focuses on creating agency in the present moment, rather than excavating past experiences and believes people are more influenced by their present environment.

Contemporary Gestalt Therapy is built upon a relational approach that values your sense of connection to yourself, to others, and to our shared place in the world. It also recognises that the body keeps the score, and utilises somatic enquiry into stored trauma that may sit below the surface of the skin, or hidden from awareness. Contemporary Gestalt therapy also recognises the link between the human experience, and the dual relationship we all share with Mother Nature.
